David is the proud recipient of a MacArthur Fellows for 2006. The John D. and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation is a private, independent grant making institution dedicated to helping groups and individuals foster lasting improvement in the human condition. David was one of 25 people who received a grant this year for "helping people of all ages see the beauty, history and value in swamps, bogs, kettle ponds, and rivers."
